Blackjacks by Clive Lawrance.

“Granddad your garden
Is full of weeds,
Says five year old Hannah.

I say, Hannah, these
Are blackjacks:

The wild canaries like them
The butterflies like them
The bees like them

So I like them.”

  1. I enjoyed this! It’s a reminder of so many good things–your garden, sweet Hannah, and learning to appreciate even the lesser appreciated things in life. I’ll look at my own very weedy garden with more forgiving eyes today.
